Made In UK Day – 9th March 2024

#MadeInUKDay has been celebrated annually since 2011 to show appreciation and support for locally made products within the UK. Some of the ways buying in the UK helps is to provide more opportunities for local jobs, give a boost to the local economies, promote UK craftsmanship, lower the carbon footprint and preserve the UK manufacturing industry.

During your spring clean detox, your thoughts will inevitably turn to which fabric to select for your new cushions. Velvet? Linen? Or herringbone? You can take your pick and give that sofa, armchair or bed an instant make-over with a scattering of Boeboes cushions! Whichever fabric you go for, it’ll give you & your room the little lift you both need. Browse our website for options and order up to five free fabric samples to get a proper feel of what the quality, colours and textures are like. It’s worth taking the time over your selection so you love your cushions as they are hard wearing!

When is it time to upgrade your cushions?

Our Boeboes cushion expert spills the beans on jaded cushions:
“We often get asked about how long cushions should last. We suggest that if your old ones have lost their plump, are faded or stained, or you are refurbishing the room’s décor, then it is probably the right time to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. Boeboes’ sumptuous, luxury cushions are made to last by our Pembrokeshire workshop team. Our scatter cushions are made from the finest fabrics and are stuffed full of luxurious, cloud-like feathers for an irresistibly soft and insanely comfortable plumpness.”

Why is spring cleaning a ‘thing’?

Spring cleaning is a thorough house cleaning practice common in spring, especially in cold winter climates.

It may have originated from Iran where the tradition of khaneh tekani (‘shaking the house’) involves thoroughly cleaning the house before the Persian New Year. Or the tradition may originate from the Jewish practice before Passover, where homes are cleansed of leavened products to observe dietary restrictions. Meanwhile, the Catholic church traditionally cleans the altar on Maundy Thursday before Good Friday. And in Greece and Orthodox nations, spring cleaning occurs during Clean Week at the start of Great Lent.

Here in northern Europe, March historically was ideal for cleaning due to weather conditions. It was a practical time for dusting before the vacuum cleaner’s invention as the month allowed for open windows without the worry of insects or wind to blow the dust.

We will just have to dust off our dusters and give everything a good clean!
